This and That

Owen is so proud of himself that I had to post his most exciting accomplishments. He read the first book in the Eragon series and received a 100% on his test. The boys are involved with a voluntary reading program and he chose to read a big book instead of several small books. He also was elected to be class president. His latest aspiration is to take his political career to the next level, Student Council Vice President!! He informed me that I will be making cupcakes for everyone, not as a bribe but as an incentive!!

I had to share this picture of Griffin. It says soo much about him! We have a new neighbor and Griffin thought he saw the neighbor looking at him in his tree house the other day. Since then he's concocted several ma cob stories about the poor guy. I asked him to take the trash out and he was scared to go out by himself. I told him I'd watch from the door and then I caught this great picture. What makes it great? He was running in fear!!

The girls wanted me to curl their hair right before church last Sunday, but I didn't feel like I had very much time. I quickly got out my curling iron and viola!!, we're trying to give Farrah Fawcett's hairdo a comeback.

My poor Kaylee has been quite ill lately. She has been running a fever every four weeks since April. She's had no other symptoms with it but it lasts for 4-7 days. I took her to the Doctor yesterday and they had her get an X-Ray of her sinuses. This showed that she had enlarged adenoids. I caught Griffin being sweet to his sister and giving her a hug. Then Owen wanted in on the action and posed for a picture of him "being sweet".

And finally, the kids have never ridden the bus to school, until today! They decided that they wanted to give it a try and so off they went. They let me take a picture before the bus came, but wouldn't let me take one while they were boarding... too embarrassing!!

Out of the mouths of my Babes...

Just to prove we do things by twos, check out the double yoked egg I cracked today. It's only the second time I've found one of these. Somedays it's the little things that bring a smile to my face.

I've always gotten a chuckle out of those emails that float around that ask random children questions and then display their really cute emails. I got one the other day that the answers seemed to funny to be from real kids. I copied the questions down and asked each of the questions to my kids, one on one so they wouldn't be influenced by the others or have time to think about the question (quite scientific huh?) Here's the questions and their answers.

How do you decide whom to marry?
Griffin-Find someone nice who encourages you and treats you with respect.
Owen-When you first see the right person, everyone else in the room gets dark and she will be in the light. You feel like you want to be really nice to her.
Kaylee-By praying and asking Heavenly Father. (AHHHH)
McKay-Pray and ask if he's the right guy to marry. (AHHH)

What is the right age to get married?
Griffin-25, it gives you enough time to find a woman, get back from your mission and you won't be too young.
Owen-21, I'll be home from my mission and then we'll date for a few months and then I'll ask her to marry me.
Kaylee-29, then you'll have the perfect house and your husband will thank you for the house.
McKay- Whenever you want.

How can a stranger tell if two people are married?
Griffin-They walk together and hold hands.
Owen-If you see them walking with a baby stroller, they're married.
Kaylee-When they walk out of a restaurant and hold hands and kiss, when they live in the same house.
McKay-If a girl buys boy stuff at the store, she's probably married.

What do you think your mom and dad have in common?
Griffin- That they love each other.
Owen- Their bad singing. (Hey!!!!!!)
Kaylee-They both choose the right and take care of us.
McKay-They both like to watch TV at night.

What do most people do on a date?
Griffin-Talk and at the very end kiss.
Owen-Eat dinner and kiss.
Kaylee-Hug, kiss and go out to restaurants.
McKay-Eat and kiss.

What would you do on a first date that was turning sour?
Griffin-I'd crawl out the bathroom window.
Owen-I'd say "Can we start all over, this is a bad day".
Kaylee-I'd tell my girlfriend that something was bad and then I'd tell the boy we need to stop dating but we can be friends. (See how young it starts, we all need a girlfriend to talk to)
McKay-I would order some pie and splash it in his face and say "I'm Out".

When is it okay to kiss someone?
Griffin-When you're married (great answer!)
Owen-17, you're old enough then.
Kaylee-18 but you need to be the same age as your boyfriend.
McKay-When they really do love you. (ahhhhh)

Is it better to be single or married?
Griffin-Married, so you won't be alone and you'll have lot's of money.
Owen-Married, because you'll always have a mate (MATE??) in your life, two heads are better than one.
Kaylee-Single, so you won't have a lot of noise around and you won't waste electricity and no one would leave doors open (Steve's weakness). If you only have one car, no one else would drive it. (what a wonderful view of married life)
McKay-Married, if your husband has more money then that would be good and you could buy more food for your kids.

How would the world be different if people didn't get married?
Griffin-Girls and boys wouldn't be friends.
Owen-People would be lonely and they'll be more grouchy.
Kaylee-You'll see men walking around with no women and they would feel sad.
McKay-It would be all girls and you would miss seeing boys and you wouldn't get to go on dates.

How would you make your marriage work?
Griffin-I'd be nice to her, be good by encouraging her and take her on dates.
Owen-I'd be nice to her and say nice things like "I like your hair today" (ahhhh), I'd never yell at her or hit her (good to know).
Kaylee-I would tell my husband that he could have all the money and I'd take care of him while he's sick.
McKay-Get alot of cute decorations to make your house the best, I would let him do whatever he wants and I'd do it with him.

Revelations

So, today I was folding laundry and I came upon a pair of Khaki pants. I placed them in Steve's pile of clothes to be hung up... something didn't look quite right about them. I looked at them again and thought "could these be the boys pants" I thought oh,no couldn't be. I went to put them back down and again asked myself "could these be the boys pants"? I literally had to look at the tag to see what size they were and yes they were the boys pants!! I got huge tears in my eyes and wondered how they had gotten soo big. They weren't supposed to wear big pants until they were teenagers. I should have known something was up when I could wear a pair of their flip flops the other day.

The girls also provided me with a first yesterday. They woke up and decided that they wanted to be twins today... real twins. They usually dress similarly but they wanted to dress exactly the same. They even carried each others different bookbags... the back story is that they were trying to trick their teacher!! That's the first time any of my twins have tried that!!

First day of school

Yesterday was the kids first day back at school. There were some mixed feelings on my part. We had a wonderful summer full of lazy days (I truly have Night Owls for children, wonder where they get it from) swimming, camping, movies and just having fun. My favorite times of the year are New Year's Day and the first of August. I find it a time of renewal and goal setting. I'm a sucker for order (says anyone who's ever seen my printable grocery list, organized by aisle, etc.) and it just makes things run smoother.

New World

Wow, I've finally decided to venture into the world of blogging. It's a scary journey to start but you know what they say... "every blog begins with the first word".
